International Day, A Huge Hit!

June 3, 2019 by Susan Armendariz

International Day at Nativity was created many years ago to encourage students to have pride in their own culture, and also to have respect and understanding other cultures. The morning began with music and dance from several different cultures, reminding students of the importance of knowing who they are – that wonderful mix of cultures and heritages!

The highlight for students is being able to participate in any dance they wish – this year the students chose to represent Nigeria, India, Greece, Honduras, Mexico, El Salvador, Africa, China, Colombia and the Philippines. Students dressed in authentic costumes swaying to the rhythms that represented their chosen country. Students also researched and made individual alters filled with wonderful items displaying their chosen country.

The day progressed with amazing food and drink prepared by Nativity parents. A Nativity parent shared, “I love how our school celebrates our International heritage. I’ve never been to a school which celebrates us like this!” Congratulations to our teachers and students for their hours of preparation and practice! The day was a huge success!!
