Letter from the Principal

April 29, 2015 by Susan Armendariz

As we enter the home stretch of the 2014-15 school year, I look back with pride at how many great strides have been made on behalf of the students and families of Nativity School this past year.

First, I am happy to report that our faculty and staff completed a very successful WASC accreditation. While the final determination will not be made available to us until this summer, the visiting committee, in their closing report, shared with us how Nativity exceeded expectations in nearly every category. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication to our amazing group of faculty and staff, who diligently provide our students the highest quality education and enrichment programs on a daily basis.

Second, our school has been chosen to pilot two cutting-edge educational programs this past year: CMAST and Onward Readers.

  • CMAST, which stands for the Center for Math and Science Teaching, is a program through Loyola Marymount University dedicated to strengthening STEM by creating a rigorous, active and continuous student-directed classrooms where risk taking and mathematical and scientific thinking flourish. The program focuses on grades 6-8. Our middle school math and science teacher, Mrs. Ramirez, is our CMAST Teacher Leader and under her leadership,  students and teachers alike have begun to see positive results.

  • The same can be said for Onward Readers, an intensive, research-based literacy program designed to ensure that all students are reading at or above grade level being implemented in kinder through 5th grade.

Both programs enhance the education our students receive, including giving them essential critical thinking skills and the ability to succeed in a new Common Core curriculum.

Nativity continues to be a strong, vibrant community that provides high-quality education and character development that will follow our students on their journeys through life. However, we could not make this tremendous impact without you. Thank you for being a part of our community!

Blessings,

Antonio Felix, Principal
